Named after the Ecorse River, Ecorse, Michigan is situated along the Detroit River. The city has a total area of 3.69 miles but over one third of that is water. The community was first settled by French residents in 1836 under the name “The Village of Grand Port.” It wasn’t until 1902 that The Village of Ecorse was established in America and not until 1942 did it become a city.
